STEM OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE NEW YEAR, 2020
We live in an enlightened age, information on any subject is literally at your fingertips. Current curriculum in middle and high schools do not address the need for equipping students with STEM skills. Some progressive school systems offer computer science and coding classes; few offer any type of "hands on" skills.
Engaging young people at best is difficult due to distractions and the uncertainty of what the future holds.
Stem programs engage the student in immersive project-based learning where the student can use their minds and hands to create skill sets that can lead them to rewarding employment opportunities.
Most communities across the country are fortunate to have local STEM programs at libraries or museums featuring STEM activities that engage young people. Two examples locally:
Valiant Radials, Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum, Inc. and Space Trek at the Kennedy Space Center.
